Re:Fresh Your Mind (R|Y|M) labelhead, Kai Schmidt aka SKAI, of German-Chilean descent, shares the RIYIM executive chair with his old acquaintance, renowned producer Gorge. Gorge is the creative brain behind 8bit Records, a charting label that has frequently worked with the likes of Nick Curly, Steve Lawler, Joris Voorn and Markus Homm, to name a few. An outside-the-box thinker, SKAI created RIYIM as a platform for a subcultural exchange between artists and music lovers. Through a series of shows and events in Germany, mainly the Rhine-Main area, RIYIM has cultivated a stage for talents such as DJ Le Roi, Mario Aureo and David Keno. RIYIM is always scouting for and developing new talents, provided that they align with SKAI’s and Gorge’s high musical standards. A result of their attention to detail, the R|Y|M releases have exploded onto the international scene and are enjoying popularity on the world’s dance floors. While SKAI is active behind the scene, he is also a musical force in his own right. Raised listening to his parents record collection, his floating sound is highly influenced by the South American rhythm and percussive house stylings. Since starting his career in 1994, SKAI has become one of the most influential DJs, not just in the Rhein-Main area, but in the international scene as well. Gigs in Ibiza, Zürich, Barcelona, Vancouver and Copenhagen and of course his residency for EMM at the world famous institution for electronic music, CocoonClub in Frankfurt, brought him credit way beyond the national borders.
